Description:
The Utah Shakespeare Festival is looking for two undergraduate teaching artists deeply committed to theatre education. This specialist teaching artist position will be part of a consistent teaching team that leads weekly Shakespeare and drama classes at a local secure-care facility for youth. The position will last for one full academic year, with the possibility of extending into summer 2024. This is an apprentice-style position: you will work in a team with the USF Education Director and a professional teaching artist, with the opportunity to take on more leadership as the contract progresses.

Required qualifications:
- Availability on Thursday evenings, 6:30-7:30, from September 7, 2023 - May 30, 2024 excluding holidays
- Experience teaching in workshop and/or classroom settings
- Experience as a theatre practitioner and/or theatre educator
- A willingness to engage in ongoing learning and professional development such as training around trauma-informed pedagogy and practice, inclusivity and accessibility best practices, critically examining the juvenile justice system, etc. Training time will be paid.
- A commitment to weekly lesson-planning, teaching, and assessment
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience teaching in juvenile justice settings
- Have completed at least one theatre education course at SUU (such as PlayTeam, Methods, Creative Dramatics, etc.)
- Flexibility and adaptability for working in partnership with the facility
